Specification tool frequently asked questions

Below is just a small selection of the most popular frequently asked questions that we get asked.

  • How would any of the suggested solutions help us in our future home?

If you have not encountered any of these solutions before it can sometimes be difficult to appreciate how they could help you in your daily lives in your future home.

We have transformed an actual house into a show home for all the solutions. You are welcome to visit our show home where we can demonstrate the solutions to you. We will be able to explore with you in person and in a real-world setting how each of the solutions might benefit you in your Cadeby Homes home.

  • When is the best time to start conversations with Automated Spaces about the solutions we require?

We have a ‘tried and tested’ client engagement methodology to help our clients the entire way from initially helping you understanding the art of the possible, agreeing the commercials with you, creating a technical design including wiring schematics, installing relevant cables during the construction works while the walls are still open before plastering, completing the physical installation of items just before you move in and then providing you with support after you have moved in.

Because many of our solutions work better when installed with a physical cable it means it would be best if we can agree what solutions you want to have in your future home ASAP. Engaging with us as early as possible ensures that we have enough time to complete the first few steps with you before we need to access the building site during the construction phase. Typically we will want to be onsite installing our cables at the same time as the electrician and other trades are installing their systems.

We do not charge you any fees for the steps where we help you understand what you might like to include in your future home. Contact us directly, as soon as possible, to discuss your requirements – 01664 500 552

  • We only want one of your solutions shown for our home should we still use the specification tool?

In this specific situation, as the specification tool automatically calculates and adds on a smart home system, networking and server rack, it would be best to contact us directly to discuss your requirement.

We can then quickly provide you with a no obligation bespoke quotation – contact us on 01664 500 552.

  • If we don’t own a smart phone or aren’t experienced using technology how can you help?

The good news is that you don’t need to own a smart phone to use most of our solutions.

You can operate the majority of our solutions using physical wall mounted switches where your traditional light switch would be located.

The switch can have up to six individual buttons that can trigger actions e.g., the top button might turn the light on/off (similar to the operation of a traditional light switch), other buttons on the switch might trigger any of the following types of actions:

    • Open or close the motorised blinds
    • Turn on/off the TV directly on your favourite channel (no more need to grab the remote and scroll through the TV channel menu)
    • Start or stop playing your favourite radio station on the in-ceiling speakers in the room
    • Turn on or off the in-ceiling fan in the bathroom or ensuite
    • Start a ‘Good Morning’ sequence that turns on the lights in the kitchen, starts playing your favourite morning playlist of music or radio station, or turns on the TV to your preferred morning breakfast TV show or news channel
    • Start a ‘Good Night’ sequence that checks all the windows and doors are closed, turns off all the TVs and music playing, turns off all the lights around the house, before arming the night-time mode on your intruder alarm. Making going to bed a much simpler task as you no longer need to go around your home doing all these things manually yourself

The buttons would also have custom engraved writing on them that clearly describes the function of each button making it intuitive for both you and any visitors to use the solutions.

The list above are just some examples of the sequences of things they can trigger – contact us to find out more ways that the buttons could help you in your day-to-day life in your future home 01664 500 552

  • Can you help us plan for future so we can easily add solutions after we have moved in?

If you are not sure what you might want to have installed and available to use on the day you move in. Or, you might to ensure you can easily add solutions in the future over time after you have moved in.

In this situation we can create a wiring design for your home that ensures all the correct cables are installed during the construction process while Cadeby Homes are building your future home.

These cables can be left in situations where we than then easily add solutions to your home in the future without having to do any messy additional works at that stage e.g., if you thought you might want to have audio in your kitchen or dinning sometime in the future then we can install a speaker cable coiled inside the ceiling void.

So, when you want to add a speaker to that room we simply have to cut the hole in the ceiling for the speaker and there is already a cable there waiting to be connected to the speaker. No more messy building works trying to retroactively install cables after you have moved into your home.

Future Ready Smart Home

Complete Installation

In this approach you select all the smart home solutions you would like to be added to your home during the construction process.

This method ensures that you have the relevant smart home solutions installed into your home before you move in.

It also is the most cost advantageous procurement method for you.

A couple reviewing house plans with a consultant at a table, looking concerned.

Future Ready Smart Home

Partial Installation

In this approach you select all the smart home solutions you would like to be added to your home during two phases; firstly during the construction process and then separately in the future after you have moved in.

For the elements you would like to install in the future we will install the associated cabling required to the relevant locations leaving them concealed to allow easy access when required i.e., we can pre-wire your home for future additions.

This method allows you to stagger your smart home solution purchases over time whilst also minimising the potential future disruption required to install the solutions at the relevant time as the necessary cabling will already be in place.

Future Ready Smart Home

Pre-wire Only

With this approach you select all the smart home solutions you would like to be added to your home in the future after you have moved in.

For these elements, we will install the associated pre-wire cabling required to the relevant locations leaving them concealed to allow easy access when required.

This method allows you to delay your smart home solution purchases whilst also minimising the potential future disruption required to install the solutions as the necessary cabling will already be in place.
