This is a role suited to those who are interested in joining a dynamic Smart Home, Home Cinema, and Independent Living solution provider as a Smart Home Technician.

Smart Home Technician

Job Description

Invariably you will be at the centre of our Client projects. You will be provided with detailed design documentation along with all the necessary equipment and then be responsible for transforming that into a living and breathing amazing smart home, home cinema or independent living installation for our Clients.


You will be fundamental for ensuring that the quality of the installation exceeds our Client’s expectations.


You may be working, individually without supervision, as part of a larger team or even leading a team at one of our offsite locations or at a Client site where you may also need to directly interact in a profession manner with other trades and as well as the Client or their representatives.

We will collaboratively establish a career path with you that will include clear progression goals to achieve promotion and will also include dedicated time each year away from installation work to participate in continuous professional development formal training courses including CEDIA certification courses.

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 09:00Hrs to 17:00Hrs i.e., 40 Hours per week


Job Location: Office is based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and you will primarily be working on client sites in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Derbyshire and surrounding Counties but occasionally may work on a project further away during the week (accommodation & transportation provided)


Roles & Responsibilities

You will play a key role within our installation teams, often leading an onsite team, you will be a very visible member of Automated Spaces. You will always be expected to be professional and courteous whilst delivering rigorously high standards for our Clients.


You will need to be meticulously accurate with your documentation including your time sheets, Client sign-off documentation, installation change control forms and other administrative duties.  


You may be required to coach/train/supervise/mentor less experienced colleagues and/or occasionally take on the direct supervision of an apprentice.  


Your role will include, but not limited to, the following of activities:

1st Fix Activities:

  • Reviewing & following installation, project as well as architectural documents
  • Installation of pre-wire cables around Client’s properties as they are being built
  • Cable termination: CAT6A Data Cables, etc.
  • Certification testing of cables


2nd Fix Activities:

  • Server rack building


3rd Fix Activities:


Managed Service Activities:

  • Ad-hoc support, whilst either Connecting over a secure remote connection or physically visiting a Client site:
  • Liaising with Client
  • Troubleshooting and fault-finding
  • Scheduled regular onsite maintenance visits to Client sites


Experience, Skills/Abilities and Qualifications

Experience

  • You will be currently working in the smart home industry
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the smart home industry working on residential projects including managing other team members
  • Experience in cable termination/testing and rack building
  • Experienced with the following types of solutions:
  • Home automation, lighting and audio/video; Control4 [Mandatory]
  • Networking; Pakedge/Araknis [Preferable but not mandatory]
  • Intruder alarm systems; Texecom [Preferable but not mandatory]
  • CCTV systems; LILIN [Preferable but not mandatory]
  • Automated blinds; QMotion [Preferable but not mandatory]
  • Experienced with the following types of concepts:
  • Smart home scenes [Mandatory]
  • Basic networking concepts e.g. OSI model, etc [Mandatory]
  • Basic Wi-Fi concepts: Channel numbers, password encryption, etc [Mandatory]
  • Advanced networking concepts e.g. VLANs, etc [Mandatory]
  • Advanced Wi-Fi concepts e.g. Measuring RSSI, Channel width, etc [Mandatory]


Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • Confident and clear communicator, both written and verbal – fluent in English
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
  • Have the enthusiasm to go above and beyond when needed
  • Capability to read, understand and translate technical drawings
  • Excellent team player and leadership skills
  • Has the initiative, experience and confidence to carry out work unsupervised on-site individually
  • Proactive and passionate individual with a can-do, must-do attitude
  • Ability to occasionally work and stay away from home overnight during the working week
  • A valid passport that allows you to travel for occasional international projects is preferable but certainly not mandatory


Qualifications

  • Existing CEDIA certifications, whilst not mandatory, will certainly be highly appreciated
  • Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Health & Safety Assessment Course [Preferable but not mandatory]
  • Full clean UK driving license with access to reliable transport [Mandatory]
  • Documentation to confirm you have right to work in UK [Mandatory]
  • ‘Enhanced’ Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate [Mandatory but if you don’t have a current certificate, then you must be willing to undergo certification process via Automated Spaces preferred DBS processing supplier)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to commute to our offices in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
  • Move equipment weighing up 22KG
  • Position self to install equipment under desks, or up ladders or using working at height platforms
