Independent Living Technology

Supporting you to remain in your home

Do you need assistance at home?

Some of us may need assistance around the home...Is this you or someone you may know? If it is, then find out below how our independent living solutions may be able to help you.

We have a show house based in Melton Mowbray, a town in Leicestershire, which you can visit and see an in person demonstration of a wide range of independent living, assisted living and at-home care solutions providing the types of support mentioned in the example use cases listed below:

We can also help provide independent living technology solutions for those people who are considering a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), scroll down to read the section below for more details or click here.

If you qualify for a NHS Continuing Healthcare Package then many of our independent living technology solutions could help you to remain in your home; providing you with independence whilst also reducing the impact on your carers...to learn more click here

As well as working on projects in Leicestershire and the surrounding counties of Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire…we can also cover any other county in the U.K.

At-home care

We can provide various sensors, that can be installed into a home, that can provide data and alerting services via a connected care platform.

This gives both informal and formal carers, in a non-intrusive manner, online access to real time status information and historical trend analysis of daily routines of people in their homes.

The platform allows for immediate fall detection as well as early detection and reporting of changes in behaviour often associated with a healthcare issue e.g., a sudden increase in night-time visits to the bathroom could be indicative of the initial phases of an UTI.

The insights provided by the connected care platform, as part of an at-home care solution, can help carers identify potential healthcare issues sooner and allow for medical intervention (where required) at an early stage.

The added reassurance of this 24x7 monitoring service can not only help promote dignity by assisting people to live in their own homes for longer. It can also help reduce the stress and anxiety of family members worrying about their loved one.

It can also provide significant cost savings due to being able to delay entry into often expensive formal care settings.

Elderly relatives

"I am concerned about the health and wellbeing of my elderly relative who lives alone."

We can install systems that allow you to make a 'drop in' voice call to your relative, in their home, which they can answer by just using their voice to initiate the call, rather than physically having to move to a device or press any buttons.

This solution can help reduce social isolation and loneliness.

Mobility challenges

"I have mobility challenges and would like to automate daily tasks in my home."

We can install various solutions to assist those with mobility challenges, some examples being:

  • Voice control e.g., opening/closing your blinds by voice command
  • Occupancy activated room lighting
  • Automated gates & garage/house door locks for those who have difficulty using a physical key
  • Door Station/Intercom system to easily answer and remotely open your locked door to visitors from anywhere in your house or even when not at home
  • Schedule-based events e.g., your lights and blinds automatically closing at sunset and opening at scheduled a time in the morning

Remain in your home

"We are getting older and would like support to enable us to continue to live in our own home."

We can implement a range of solutions that can allow you to:

  • Remain in a familiar setting
  • Stay near friends & family
  • Continue to live with your pets
  • Leave you with more money for health care
  • Avoid the stresses of moving into a care facility
  • Retain your dignity through independent living
  • Provide reassurance to your family that you’re safe
  • Promote your sense independence
  • Reduce potential sense of isolation or loneliness
  • Reduce the impact on your carers

Dealing with dementia

"I would like assistance in and around my home to help me deal with dementia."

We can install various solutions to assist those with dementia, some examples being;

  • Audible announcements e.g., an audible reminder prompt to take medication or appointment alerts
  • Automated events e.g., arming the night-time mode of the Intruder Alarm if not done before you go to bed
  • Key Room activity monitoring and reporting to 3rd parties e.g., alerting a nominated relative/care provider if no presence is detected in the kitchen at certain times of the day such as breakfast, lunch or dinner time, etc.
  • Voice control of TVs or Music players to reduce reliance of finding physical remote controls

Prone to sudden falls

"I am prone to sudden falls and would like someone to be alerted automatically if I have fallen in my home."

We can install various solutions to assist those prone to sudden falls, some examples being;

  • Immediate fall detection and alerting without the need to wear or carry anything with you
  • Voice activated communications e.g., ability to initiate a voice call with a relative or an emergency contact without needing to dial a number or even have your phone close to hand
  • Automation of tasks to reduce activities that involve a risk of falling e.g., occupancy activated room lighting instead of having to approach light switches or opening and closing blinds at sunset and sunrise

Hearing impairment

"I have a hearing impairment and would like assistance in my home."

We can install various solutions to assist those with a hearing impairment, some examples being;

  • Visual indicators e.g., flashing lights in rooms or a pop up alert on a TV screen when someone rings the doorbell
  • Push notifications to mobile phones e.g., receiving a notification to confirm the intruder alarm has been successfully armed when exiting house or when someone rings the doorbell

Living with OCD

"I have OCD and would like help coping with certain anxiety triggers such as not being 100% sure if I locked my door or closed my windows when I'm away from home."

We can install solutions that can provide the real time assurance and confirmation that windows and doors have been locked even when you are not at home.

As well as implement systems that will automatically notify you if windows or doors are open as you go to bed or as you leave your property.

Visual impairment

"I have a visual impairment and would like my home to make audible announcements about key events."

We can install various solutions to assist those with a visual impairment, some examples being;

  • Voice control of all systems in the house e.g., control of central heating system with your voice, meaning you can easily identify the current temperature in the room and adjust the set point accordingly
  • Audible announcements e.g., an audible confirmation that all windows are closed and that your intruder alarm is being armed when you’re exiting the house, meaning you no longer need to physically check each window before you leave or enter pin codes on an intruder alarm keypad

Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)

With the recent updates to the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) delivery guidance, the types of Assistive Technologies that can be implemented as part of a successfull DFG award have been expanded to include:

7.8 Controlling sources of power, light and heat

  • Smart lighting that can be remotely turned on and off, made brighter or dimmed, change colour and synchronise with other devices
  • Smart thermostats that can automatically learn user temperature preferences and self-adjust when users leave or enter a room, and be remotely controlled via a smart phone or another device
  • Smart hubs that allow people to control household devices and appliances using a voice activated assistant, an app on their smart phone or an alternative assistive technology.
  • Infrared controlled power sockets to switch devices on and off with a remote control
  • Automated light switches that can be activated using voice commands, a smart phone app, or via sensor triggered by movement or a timer

Improving digital connectivity within a dwelling

7.9 Local authorities should note that some products may need a suitable level of digital connectivity to function. If the dwelling does not already have the necessary infrastructure to support assistive technologies, they may use the Disabled Facilities Grant to fund capital equipment if it is required to support the overall package of adaptations to the home such as:

  • Wireless routers
  • Wi-Fi signal extenders
  • Cabling
