Visiting public cinemas (when they are open) to watch movies, with “COVID-19 Secure” guidelines in place, is a very different experience to pre-lockdown days[1]:

  • Advanced online booking
  • Providing your personal contact details for NHS Track & Trace purposes
  • Entry and exiting of the venue via prescribed routes
  • Use of hand sanitiser as you enter and exit the venue
  • Reduced auditorium capacities
  • Extended time between shows to allow the operators to thoroughly clean the auditoriums including the use of sprayed disinfectants
  • An increased scarcity of available seats
  • Possible increased ticket prices in the future due to reduced revenues
  • Increased risk levels of transmission of COVID-19 while sitting in an enclosed space for several hours with significant numbers of people from outside your household/support bubble
  • No longer able to purchase snacks that are not sold in sealed packaging e.g. popcorn or pick ‘n’ mix

All these conditions and guidelines are leading many people to consider the safer alternatives to visiting public cinemas to watch movies.
